Large tree grows best on moist to well drained loamy soils. Grey flakey bark. Reproduces from stump sprouts and seed. Low shade tolerance. Acorns produced almost annually, fall with caps off. An excellent source of food for wildlife. Used for ornamental plantings, quality lumber and firewood. 100+ year lifespan.
