Shrubs

A shrub is a small to medium-sized woody plant. It is distinguished from a tree by its multiple stems and shorter height. Plants of many species may grow either into shrubs or trees, depending on their growing conditions.

American Highbush Cranberry

3ft to 8ft shrub found throughout Ontario on a variety of sites, but most common around shore-lands. Moderate shade tolerance.

Nannyberry

3ft to 8ft shrub found throughout Ontario on a variety of sites, and will tolerate moist to wet sites. Moderate shade tolerance.

Red Osier Dogwood

3ft to 10ft shrub found throughout southern and central Ontario. Likes moist sites in full sun. Often found in or near ditches.

Staghorn Sumac

Fast growing native shrub, planted for wildlife. Brilliant red fall colour.
