Deciduous
Deciduous trees can be found in most regions of the planet. Common examples of deciduous trees include oak, maple, and hickory trees.
Big Shellbark Hickory
Rare in Canada, similar to Shagbark Hickory but with larger leaves, buds, twigs and nuts. Occurs on moist wet sites, in valleys and along stream banks; mix
Black Cherry
Fast growing, medium to large tree. Prefers moist to well drained rich soils but also found on other soils. Reproduces by stump sprouts and seed.
Black Walnut
Fast growing, large tree best on rich fertile soil in southern Ontario. Reproduces from stump sprouts and seed. Low shade tolerance.
Bur Oak
Large tree. Grows best on moist to well drained soils. Reproduces from stump sprouts and seed. Low shade tolerance. Produces seed almost annually.
Hackberry
Usually the Hackberry forms a medium-sized tree, thirty to fifty feet in height, with a slender trunk. It prefers rich moist soil, but will grow on gravel
Pin Oak
The name pin oak comes from its short, tough branchlets located along the branches and limbs.
Red Maple
Fast growing, medium size tree that will tolerate poorly drained soils. Will do well on uplands if competition is controlled.

Fast growing, large tree. Grows best on moist to well drained loamy soils. Reproduces from stump sprouts and seed. Low shade tolerance.
Red/Silver Hybrid
The red-silver maple complex also possesses another remarkable trait: As they age, they undergo a sex change.
Shagbark Hickory
Medium to large tree common in southern and south-western Ontario. Prefers well drained rich soils. Seldom in pure stands.
Silver Maple
Very fast growing, large tree adapted to wet heavy soil sites especially along rivers. Reproduces from stump sprouts and seed.
Sugar Maple
The Sugar Maple grows to approximately 100 feet tall. Fall colour ranges from bright yellow, orange, to a fluorescent red-orange. Can live over 200 years.
Swamp White Oak
Large tree found in moist river drainages in the southern and south-western parts of Ontario. Tolerates periodic flooding.
Sycamore
Can grow to 35m and can live for 400 years. The bark is dark pink-grey and smooth when young, but becomes cracked and develops small plates with age.
White Birch
Medium size tree. Grows on moist to moderately drained soils. Bright white bark that can be removed in sheets. Reproduces from stump sprouts or seed.
White Oak
Large tree grows best on moist to well drained loamy soils. Grey flakey bark. Reproduces from stump sprouts and seed. Low shade tolerance.
